The Neighborhood
Comprised of nearly 600 homes, Eastover is one of Charlotte’s most coveted neighborhoods and it's history alone explains why.
In the late 1800s, the introduction of the electric street car made way for Charlotte’s most wealthy citizens to move from the center city into suburbs known as Dilworth, Elizabeth and Myers Park. As the cotton cloth production industry boomed, Charlotte attracted more and more upper-income families. In 1927, E.C. Griffith Company saw this as a prime opportunity to develop a neighborhood for Charlotte’s most substantial residences. With help from Earle Sumner Draper, the two devised a plan to compete and surpass the existing neighborhoods with one that would become known as Eastover. Due to the location several blocks from the streetcar, Eastover residents were expected to own automobiles, thus becoming Charlotte’s first “automobile neighborhood”.
Today, Eastover still reigns as an exclusive neighborhood. Nestled southeast of Uptown Charlotte, this location is prime real estate for enjoying all of the amenities our Queen City has to offer. The Cherokee is proudly part of the Eastover community and is situated in a desirable setting where residents can walk to dinner, view a movie at the Manor Theater and stroll home through the meandering streets. A few blocks from the restaurants and shops of charming old Charlotte, coupled with the seven minute commute to Center City, makes The Cherokee a great place to call home.
